The Norse gods are smiling down on York as the city is about to welcome back the ever-popular THOR’S tipi this June, at not just one, but two fabulous locations right in the heart of the city centre! The Vikings have given a lot to York, not least its name! And now to celebrate the coming of summer, the city will welcome back both THOR’S tipi on Parliament Street on Monday 21st June and SOL AST, which means light and love In Old Norse, to the grounds of the Principal Hotel on Friday 18th June.
“The set-up of both THOR’S and SOL AST are the perfect mix of outdoor & indoor environments to help visitors relax and enjoy themselves in this unique moment in time. We cannot thank both Make It York and The Principal Hotel for all their support in helping us return this year.”
Commented Amanda Monaghan, director of THOR’S tipi
“The past year has been tough for so many people and this is our chance to celebrate the important things – friends & love! We’ve been designing some exciting interiors for both sites, including new neon selfie walls, lush florals, beautiful lighting and bespoke seating areas. In true THOR’S style there will be a big reveal in Parliament Street – and you’ll just have to wait until we open to find out more…”
Indeed, both venues will offer visitors different, yet complimentary experiences. SOL AST is being described as the place for glamorous get togethers, inspired by luxe-Ibiza vibes and celebrating the finer things in life! With cabanas, a bespoke THOR’S playlist and delicious food offering from Frango Eduardo, serving Piri-Piri grilled chicken and chips, a perfect fit with the chilled, Mediterranean vibe.
Then at THOR’S tipi, guests are invited to soak up the bustle of the city centre whilst relaxing with a tropical inspired drink in hand. The famous fire pits will return for cosy evenings, alongside DJ sets on weekends. Guests will also be able to feed their souls and bellies, by feasting on the finest street food offering thanks to 6 local street food vendors, including Yuzu Street Food, Indochine by Krep, Shambles Kitchen, Sloppy’s Burgers, Stam & Maria, The York Roast Co and Donut Kitchen.
“We’re creating a diverse menu for each bar, there’ll be some firm favourites alongside new concepts. After the year we’ve all had we get the feeling people are wanting push the boat out and really treat themselves, so we’re also introducing some Champagnes & English Sparkling to the menu at SOL AST. And of course, there’ll be our famous frozen cocktails in Parliament St… Including a Pornstar Martini Slushy – if we can’t go to Cancun, we’ll bring the fun to York!”
Added Alex Hardcastle, THOR’S Mixologist and Chief Warrior.
